Update: Thursday, Nov. 8

On Tuesday, we have brought some muffins into John's work to raise money for donation.
Thank you all for your kind support and donations. As a result of our first bake sale event, we have raised about $220!
We really have to thank Atsuko-san for donating her time and supplies in baking all of those delicious muffins. They were a great hit!!

We have also received 4, "$50 gift certificates" to "Sharaku" Japanese Restaurant in Farmington Hills, to sell as a fund raiser. (They have the best sushi in Michigan)
If anyone is interested in purchasing one or two of these gift certificates, please email or contact John.

John, Anzu and I will be heading out to San Diego next Wednesday. I don't know what we could really do, but my sister seems excited that the family is still getting together for Thanks Giving.

Update: Saturday Nov. 3

Mina & Shin have signed a lease and have moved into their new rental today. They've gone to the West Bernardo volunteer center and signed up for support from FEMA. They wont know how much they will be donated until they go out and see the damage. Salvation Army also gave $200 worth of gift cards and Sony (where Mina works) also gave them a Walmart voucher.

We may have found an organization that may take care of the wreckage of their home.

They also continue to receive donations from many people, which we highly appreciate. At this time we've raised $294.90 USD.

Thank you very much for your continuous support!

Mina, Shin & Noel Enokida

Mina works for Sony and Shin designs furniture from his home studio. Their energy is addictive. They, along with their dog Noel, live in Escondido California in a neighborhood called Del Dios. Del Dios is located right on Lake Hodges which is a fantastic location offering undeveloped vista views and pleasant natural escape from the recent population increase in San Diego. It is a perfect place for Mina and Shin to live. They have worked hard for it. They've done a great job saving and planning to be able to live in such a place for their first home.

The recent wild fires in San Diego have claimed everything Mina and Shin own. With only 15 minutes to evacuate, they were able to leave with their laptops, their dog Noel and basically the clothes on their backs. They've lost everything they have worked so hard for. Lake Hodges was hit really hard by the fires and was even the spot where the major networks broadcast their special reports on the fires.

Through all of this, Shin and Mina have remained completely positive even when their insurance company said they wouldn't pay them back completely on what they've lost. They still are positive after finding out that there will be limited assistance from FEMA or their insurance company regarding cleanup efforts. Their positivity is inspiring.

We created this blog so people could pass along to anyone who would be able to help with a donation. Mina and Shin have a long expensive road ahead of them. Their insurance and personal finances can only help them so far. If you would like to help, please click on the "Donate" button at the top left of this page. Any amount will help and I assure you Mina and Shin will be thankful.

We can update the blog with news and more photos to show the progress of the cleanup and construction.

Thanks
John & Asa Stoll
